The elephant is ov hammered sterling silver with 18-karat gold tusks, pearl eyes, a gold headdress worked in repousse set with river pearls and one sea pearl and an emerald pendant. The elephant wears a tail ornament in sterling silver with gold trim and openwork and carries a silver rug worked in repousse and set with a central jade and several turquoises; on the rug is a carved ivory howdah carrying a malachite egg supported by a floral gold ornament set with pearls. The sculpture is set on a rectangular base of tiger’s-eye stone and opal matrix.
