DescriptionCommemorative fan for Lincoln assassination. Narrow lithographed paper leaf. Obverse: medallion with Lincoln center, inscriptions above, below; flanked by putti on clouds, columns; inset Spanish songs, inscriptions to outsides. Reverse: five scenes from assassination, Monitor and Merrimac left, Richmond in flames right. Nine carved and gilded metal sticks with Mexican eagles on blades; daguerreotype portraits, names of American generals (obverse) and women of royal European families (reverse) applied to blades. Mother-of-pearl rings on rivet. White and gilt-silver tassels depends from gilt metal ring. Leaf and portraits probably printed in the US for Cuban fanmaker.
