The body is boat-shaped and hollow underneath. Concentric beaded rings ornament the outer surface. The long jointed pin has rusted on the guard. Green encrustation.

Provenance

March, 1888: excavated from a Roman tomb on the Esquiline Hill and acquired by Alessandro Iandolo (dealer), Rome (said to be from a grave on the Esquiline); purchased by R. Lanciani from Jandolo; purchased by MFA from R. Lanciani, 1888, for $493.92 (this figure is the total price of MFA 88.538–88.644 and 89.9–89.31)
