Between about 1935 and 1939, acquired by Dr. James Henry Lockhart, Jr. (b. 1912 - d. 2002), Geneseo, NY [see note 1]; by 1980, probably sold by Lockhart to Robert M. Light and Co. (dealer), Santa Barbara, CA [see note 2]; 1981, sold by R. M. Light and Co. to the MFA. (Accession Date: April 15, 1981)

[1] Lockhart began to collect after graduating from college in 1935 (see his biography in Lugt, Marques de Collections, 4387). This print was included in "An Exhibition of 100 Prints and Drawings from the Collection of James H. Lockhart, Jr.," Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, May 4 - June 30, 1939. He also lent it anonymously to "The First Century of Printmaking, 1400-1500," Art Institute of Chicago, January 30 - March 2, 1941, cat. no. 53. [2] Lockhart is known to have done business with R. M.
