Mother-of-pearl inlay includes the image of a celestial being called thepphanom (upright when the drum is upside-down); drumhead tensioned with black string.


By 1993, likely acquired with the assistance of François Duhau de Bérenx, Bangkok, by Doris Duke (1912-1993), Somerset County, New Jersey; 1993, by inheritance to the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, New York; 2004, gift of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to the MFA.
