DescriptionBronze. Obverse: Pegasus, with laurel branch in his mouth, bounds the Palisades over Hudson with the skyline of New York City in the distance. The date "1948" appears in raised numbers across the face of the rock. In raised letters encircling the medal's face: "GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK" Reverse: Symbols for eight civil servant professions are depicted between the spokes of a wheel shape, the hub of which has the raised inscription "AWARDED / TO" and is surrounded by fasces bound into a wreath shape. The raised inscription: SANITATION EDUCATION CULTURE: HOSPITALS / TRANSPORTATION FIRE DEPT. JUSTICE" encircles the outer edge of the wheel, with each job title adjacent to its attribute. The raised inscription "THEO.BARBAROSSA 1948" appears below the fire department symbol. Lower edge: MEDALIC ART CO. N.Y. BRONZE.
