Circular medal of Gregory XIII (Pope 1572-1585), commemorating the massacre of the Hugenots by the French (1572).
Obverse: Profile bust of Gregory XIII looking to proper right; inscribed at edge “GREGORIVS·XIII·PONT·MAXANI·” and under bust “F·B·”.
Reverse: Winged angel at proper right, holding a sword in one hand and a cross in the other and engaging a group of fleeing soldiers (Huguenots) at proper left; inscribed “VGONOTTORVM.STRAGES.1572”.
Obverse: Inscribed under bust "F·B·" and at edge "GREGORIVS·XIII·PONT·MAXANI·".
Reverse: Inscribed "VGONOTTORVM.STRAGES.1572".
