DescriptionA nude youth, in sandals, lies with his right hand under his head and his left on his thigh, making his body a bridge between two supports which rise from a plaque in the shape of a half-ellipse decorated with two rams' heads left and right of an inverted palmette. Green patina; much corroded.
ProvenanceSaid to have been found in a tomb at Città della Pieve, Italy [see note 1]. Possibly in the Giorgi Taccini family collection, Città della Pieve, sold in the late 19th century [note 2]. By 1904, sold by Charles Fairfax Murray (b. 1849 – d. 1919) in Florence to Denman Waldo Ross (b. 1853 – d. 1935), Boston; 1904, gifted by Denman W. Ross to the MFA. (Accession date: January 14, 1904)
