DescriptionThis handle of a spoon is inscribed in Greek on one side. The first two letters are difficult to read but the following letters are discernible: "MAHHNEPA" (?). Similar spoons produced during this period are known as "liturgical spoons" and are often inscribed with the name of a saint, bishop, or a vow. Examples are known from Syria, Egypt, Gaul, and England during this period.
