At the top of the handle, two recumbent lions, incised tongue patterns and an inverted palmette; at the lower end, two recumbent rams with tongue fillets and a crown of pearls between. The green crusty patina has been mostly removed.
By 1899: with Edward Perry Warren (according to Warren's records: Drawing sent from Athens. Handle purchased in Paris. Mate passed into possession of Rollin et Feuardent.); purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren, 1899, for $ 32,500.00 (this is the total price for MFA 99.338-99.542)
