Description(Groningen: P. Noordhoff, 1928) Quarto; [6 ff.] 75 pp. [1 f.]; original publisher's pictorial tan paper wrappers (gray cardboard box).

Folktales collected by Mrs. E. J. Huizinga Onnekes, the first volume of a series, Groninger Volksvertellingen, printed in an edition of 600 copies (only the first 50 numbered). The MFA also owns the second volume (1988.452). The initials and occasional other vignettes are printed in two colors (black and red, usually). The full-page illustration opposite p. 53 is hand-colored. The printer was H. N. Werkman, later to become famous for his Resistance publications during the Second World War and the German occupation of the Netherlands. The MFA has one of his own books from 1942 (1985.133).
