American, early 19th cenury. Infant’s shirt of sheer white linen, (now somewhat yellowed), square wide neck formed by double band of linen, short sleeves formed by slightly gathered ruffle of bobbin lace, narrow bobbin lace ruffle around neck, and down open front, fullness gathered into neckband, two buttonholes in center front of neckband.
