DescriptionIonic capital with convex volute channels, which curve downward over the echinus. The echinus is visible underneath the bolster. A palmette masks the junction of the echinus and volute. The surface lacks sculptural ornament. Essentially complete but chipped and abraded in many places. Limestone.
ProvenanceJuly 13, 1970, anonymous ("various properties") sale, Sotheby's, London, lot 176, sold to "Slaughter." About 1970, acquired by an anonymous donor [see note]; 1998, anonymous gift to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 31, 1998)
