DescriptionTsuji banzuke advertising the headlining kabuki dance drama "Sakigake Genji Soga no tehajime" that was staged at the Kawarazaki Theater (Edo) on the 2nd day of the 1st lunar month of Kôka 2 (1845). The program also mentions the dramas: "Ôgi ôgi hige no toshidama", a Jôruri piece that was performed in the Tokiwazu-style; and "Shô fuda tsuki kongen kusazuri" with Naga-uta style musical accompaniment. [1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
