Étude d'Arbres dans les Jardins de Kensington
Sir Francis Seymour Haden (English, 1818–1910)
Harrington (1910) 28; Schneiderman (1983) 31, II
Platemark: 19.7 × 12.5 cm (7 3/4 × 4 15/16 in.) Sheet: 26.4 × 17.5 cm (10 3/8 × 6 7/8 in.)
Medium or Technique
Etching with drypoint
Not On View
Harrington catalogues the impression in the Dr. Frederick H. James Collection (AK) as measuring larger than 11.5 x 8 in, supposedly trimmed within the plate mark. However, this was incorrectly catalogued as it is an impression of state III on Chine collé mounted on wove paper; it was mistakenly measured at the blanket or second plate mark used to impress the India paper on the larger sheet.
The plate re-etched; the shadows of the foliage are well expressed and the tree trunks made darker. Light drypoint work in the upper right.
