DescriptionLid for 1988.204a. Amber-flashed glass with gilding and enamel decoration. Hexagonal faceted body on faceted and knopped stem and spreading six-lobed foot. Cover has matching lobed rim and hexagonal spire finial. One side of body has raised rectangular panel with painted image of three peasants seated at a table in an inn. The central male figure and the woman are based on Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1685) "Two Peasants," 1653. On opposite side of body is a convex viewing lens. Body, stem, and lid are decorated with green enamel grape leaves on a gold vermicular ground. Knop, rim of goblet, and finial are amber-flashed with gold edging and acanthus leaf patterns.
