Mary and the baby Jesus sit at the edge of a walled city, their bodies as stable and monumental as the blocks of stone structuring the space around them in cubic rectangles. Subtle shifts in tone infuse the scene with a silver light. Delicately engraved lines and dots define a variety of textures, including the satiny fabric of Mary's cloak and the fur trim of her dress.
