DescriptionOne of four pieces. Clear, lacy, pressed glass. These four pieces represent a type of lacy pressed glass produced a the Boston and Sandwich Glass Co. from c.1835 to the mid 19th century. Generally called miniatures, these pieces were made of colorless molten glass, like the majority of the early lacy pressed glass. Miniatures were probably produced for the use as children's toys. Anotehr theory is that salesmen carried them as samples to avoid excess bulk and breakage. Whatever their intended use, they illustrate the remarkable pattern precision which this New England glass factory was able to achieve on such dainty and minute forms.
