Circular medal of Napoléon III (1808-1873), emperor of France, and Victor Emmanuel (1820-1878), commemorating victory of Solferino with hanging loop and ring attached at top.
Obverse: Eagle above and lion supporting shield below with two inset medallions: profile bust of Victor Emmanuel at proper left looking to proper right, wearing laureate crown, and profile bust of Napoléon III at proper right looking to proper left; inscribed at edge of each inset medallion: at proper left “V.EMMANUEL” and at proper right “NAPOLEON III”.
Reverse: Inscribed at edge “GUERRE DE L’INDEPENDENCE ITALIENNE” and in wreath “BATAILEE/LE SOLFERION/GAGNEE/LE 24 JUIN/1859”.
Obverse: Inscribed at edge of each inset medallion: at proper left "V.EMMANUEL" and at proper right "NAPOLEON III".
