Harrington catalogues two states, trial (a) with the bur and the published state with the bur removed. I believe that the bur wore during the printing, rather than being intentionally removed.
I (D1, Ha/1). A craggy landscape with a road at the center descending towards a group of trees and buildings in a rocky hollow; beyond is a plain stretching away towards the sea. With the inscription Seymour Haden 1877 (D, l.l.).
