The Ancient World

This oil jar depicts a young man on horseback attacking an Amazon. The painting has faded a great deal, but the outlines of the drawing survive. The amazon wears a floppy Persian hat and a short tunic, with a sword strapped to her side. She rears back away from the horse and throws an arm up to her head to protect her face. The horseman carries a spear and wears a dark red cape tied about his neck.
