Throughout his career, LeWitt has continually returned to the grid and the cube, revealing a fascination with the infinite possibilities of these simple forms. In One-Two-One with Two half-Off, LeWitt stacks cubes in the manner described in his title, using the simple modular forms to create a complex structure. The artist selected the white enamel over aluminum for its formal clarity and lack of specific associations.
