DescriptionIntaglio. Convex front, flat back. Head of Apollo in profile to the right. He has long, curly hair that flows down his back and a topknot. He wears a fillet that separates the curls along his face from the crown of his head. Chipped at the bottom.
ProvenanceBy date unknown; with Edward Perry Warren (according to his records the gem was found in a vineyard between Anzio and Nettuno; dates unknown: with the Sindaco of Anzio, purchased from the Sindaco by Helbig who in turn sold it to Edward Perry Warren); 1899: purchased by MFA from Edward Perry Warren for $ 32,500.00 (this is the total price for MFA 99.338-99.542)
