DescriptionOrange carnelian with yellow-orange variation. Intaglio. Flat front and back with inward front and back bezels. A figure of indeterminate gender appears to be kneeling, in profile to the left, before a thin vertical object, probably a tree with two grooves representing leaves. One arm is raised toward the tree, while the other reaches towards a round object at the base of the tree. The figure wears a short cloak and a small point on the top of the figure's head may indicate some sort of hat or headdress. Very simply rendered without detail, making the scene unclear. The figure kneels on a ground line. Edge chipped.
ProvenanceBy date unknown: Alexander Cochrane Collection; gift of Alexander Cochrane to MFA, August 1, 1918
