Black silk satin weave uppers with a white cotton insole. There are red stamps and black Chinese characters along with the name “MEAD” on the insole of each boot. Half-inch white inflexible sole is made out of layers of felted paper with a final layer of brown leather.


Acquired by Lawrence Mead in China in the early 20th century; by inheritance to Eleanor M. Strong, 1969; gift to MFA, December 12, 2001.
