Panel; large wall panel of silk compound satin; ground, originally blue, now light neutral yellow except a little very pale faded blue in right and bottom border; made of three widths of material (only one is complete); symmetrical, vertical design (not complete) including dogs leaping at goat’s head, reclining lions, trophies of war, the huntress Diana, leaping leopards, etc.; woven in taupe and ivory silk wefts; border sewed on all four sides of rinceau with serpents and with heads of lions smoking pipes and caryatids on sides; in each corner, a lion’s head; two horizontal seams near top of center; stained, tender, torn, brittle, faded, partly in shreds, especially right and lower border.
