Bed valance, probably hung on front of bed because of shaped edges at both ends; single piece of plain weave linen with selvedge across top; embroidered with flowering vine on mound with sheep, squirrel, and strawberry at center flanked by flowering vines with strawberries and buds and large lobed leaves; stems and yellow tulips in solid stem or outline stitch, and leaves and other flowers outlined in stem stitch and filled in the New England laid or Roumanian couching; centers on several flowers and pink fruit on right are a grid of stem or outline stitches filled in with cross stitches; some flower centers in French knots; leaves behind roses outlines in buttonhole stitches; from same set as 49.55
