DescriptionPomade pot with cover. Soft paste. Cylindrical pot decorated in Kakiemon chrysanthemum and branch motif with red border at base. Japanese landscape scene and butterfly on cover surrounded by red patterned border; round green knop finial. Mark: hunting horn in red.

ProvenanceAugust 7, 1940, possibly sold by Elizabeth W. Duval, New York, to Forsyth Wickes (b. 1876 - d. 1964), New York and Newport, RI [see note]; 1965, bequest of Forsyth Wickes to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 24, 1965)

NOTE: This may be the "Chantilly jar with cover" that she sold to Forsyth Wickes on this date, which had been acquired by her mother from "Vernon, Newport, 1929."
