Pieced prayer mat (?). Center: a rectangualr area of dense red silk embroidery having floral and geometric motives highlighted in orange, black and blue silk yarns; possibly Bulgaria or Macedonia. Above this is a rectangular prayer nitch having floral and geometric motives in polychrome islk and sool yarns on a tan linen ground. Drawnwork border of polychrome silk’possibly Greece or Turkey. These are surrounded by a border of round metallions, with cross and spherical motives in polychrome silk, each on an individual square tan cotton ground; probably Macedonia. Bordering this is a repeating geometric blossom motif in the same materials; possibly Greece or Turkey. Outer border: woven red cotton bands with lozenge and hook in yellow, white and blue cotton yarns; probably Albania. Red and tan cotton fringe. Soiled and worn; lining partially opened.
