Catalogue Raisonné Sculpture in Stone (MFA), no. 461.
DescriptionThe nose and face have suffered some damage, as visible. The surfaces have the usual crusty brown patina.
The man wears a relatively thin, tight wreath around his brow. The hair above is only slightly indicated, while a fringe of curls appears over the forehead. The back of the neck and base of the skull are not carved out, forming a support for the head akin to that found on some Roman Republican togati. The ears are also unfinished.
Despite the characteristics of carving, the head is well proportioned, and the face is well modeled.
