Two vertical bands repeating alternately side by side. The first: medallions, repeating one above the other framed by undulating leafy vines, containing the liberty bell, dated 1776. Above flags, firing cannons and bayonetted rifles. White background. The second: medallions, framed by wreaths of corn or wheat stalks and repeating one above the other, containing the scene of a dove carrying an olive branch flying into the sunset. In the foreground are agricultural implements and produce behind a striped shield with the date 1876 and “peace”. Surmounted by an eagle. Black background. Written sideways as part of the borders separating these bands are the repeating phrases, “Our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor” and “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Reds, blues, black and other colors on a cotton ground. Very good condition. Mounted on a black cotton backing with gold metallic trim.
