Quill work “hatchment” lozenge form in shadow box. Foster arms worked in mostly reds and gold, flower tendrils on curved edge, LH and date below.
Quillwork objects were made of paper filigree or rolled paper, combined with wire, wax, glass, and other materials. This example includes the coat of arms of the Foster family and was initialed and dated by its young maker. Nearly every surviving example of American quillwork was made in or near Boston.
