Jewelry, The Ancient World

Intaglio. Set in ancient gold ring, with elliptical hoop with thickening shoulders. Motif carved on convex side. Very sketchily rendered. A chubby Eros, with short, stubby wings at his shoulder blades, bends forward while holding a stick in one hand and an insect, possibly a grasshopper upside down, in the other. He appears to be wearing a hat that covers much of his face, except for a large nose and mouth.
