Rock crystal ring, with large bezel
Middle Hellenistic Period
2nd century B.C.
Legacy dimension: 0.05 L. of bezel
Medium or Technique
Anne and Blake Ireland Gallery (Gallery 210A)
Originally, the recessed bezel might have held an engraved stone or colored glass cut with an image. The large size and distinctive thick shouldered hoop are typical of Hellenistic finger rings made in a variety of media, including bone, gold, glass and rock crystal.
There is little sign of wear but this could be because the ring was preserved in a closed burial or votive deposit.
