DescriptionRocking chair with runners slotted into turned legs; seven turned stretchers, and with seat rails tenoned into legs; legs continue upward to form arm supports and back posts; four slats and cylindrical bent wood rod; dark gray cotton upholstery seat; original finish a dark brown mahogany stain.
Marks Branded on back of top slat: "7." Stamped in gilt on back of bottom slat: "Shaker's / No. 7 / TRADEMARK / MT. LEBANON, N.Y. [surrounding a rocking chair]"
ProvenanceEarly history unknown; given to the Museum as part of a benefit auction to support the newly founded Department of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture in 1970; later accessioned by the Museum in 1978 (Accession Date April 11, 1978)
