NOTES:
[1] The abbey church of Sant'Eugenio, closed during the second half of the 18th century, was acquired by the Griccioli family in 1812 and used as a villa. [2] In his memoirs, Joni recounts his sale of the panels depicting Peter and Paul to a dealer who then sold them to Perkins. Joni made copies of the paintings for the Griccioli family. Icilio Federico Joni, Le Memorie di un Pittore di Quadri Antichi (Florence, 1936), pp. 233-234. The panels had been lent by the Griccioli to the Mostra dell'Antica Arte Senese (Palazzo Pubblico, Siena, April-August, 1904), cat. nos. 26 and 27.
