DescriptionPair of Salvers (65.2298-65.2299). A pair of large four footed round trays. Scalloped borders, gadrooned rims interrupted by shell and leaf cartouches. Shell feet flanked grapes and leafage.
Marks
On the underside of the rim, maker's mark PR in a rectangle (sim to Grimwade 2228 but without the pellet); lion passant; leopard's head crowned; sovereign's head; date letter d (1819/20).
InscriptionsThe cavetto engraved with Coat of Arms with Crest above. Motto "Audacter et Sincere".
ARMORIALS: engraved on the front of the salver, the arms of Clive impaling Windsor, for Robert Henry Clive, of Oakley Park, co. Salop., 2nd son of Edward; 1st Earl of Powis, b 15 Jan 1789, MP for Ludlow 1818-1832, South Salop 1832 - death 1854, m 19 June 1819, Harriet Baroness Windsor, dau of Other Hickman, 5thEarl of Plymouth.
SCRATCHES: punched on the back, two "T"s.
