1920s or 1930s, probably acquired from the artist by Walther Krieg (b. 1880 - d. 1952; cf. L. 799b), Bern; November 7, 1952, anonymous (Krieg) sale, auction 71, Gutekunst and Klipstein, Bern, probably part of lot 28 [see note]. W. G. Russell Allen (b. 1882 - d. 1955), Boston; 1961, bequest of W. G. Russell Allen to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 11, 1961)

NOTE: The verso of the print is inscribed with Walther Krieg's name. A complete set of Kollwitz's Seven Woodcuts on War was included in the posthumous sale of Krieg's collection, held at Gutekunst and Klipstein. The catalogue notes that the collector had frequent contact with Kollwitz before World War II and acquired works of art from her directly.
