One of a pair of side chairs painted black and gold with fruit and leaves. Turned and curved top rail. Rush seat repainted.
Label on rear seat rail under a layer of discolored varnish: "L. HITCHCOCK. HITCHCOCKSVILLE. CONN. WARRANTED."
Belonged to Joseph Moore (1804-1855) of Ware, Massachusetts, and shown in the portrait of his family by Erastus Salisbury Field in the Museum collection (58.25); by descent to his great-granddaughter Helen E. Farrar of Sherborn, Massachusetts. 1958, gift of Maxim Karolik to the MFA.
