The turquoise in this necklace comes from Sleeping Beauty Mountain in Globe, Arizona. The term Sleeping Beauty turquoise refers to a unique variety of turquoise that is ‘matrix-free,’ with no veining. Sleeping Beauty turquoise occurs in association with granite host-rock. The color range for ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is a dark ‘Royal Blue’ to a light ‘Sky Blue.’ In this case, oval turqoise beads have been highlighted by fragments of 24 kt gold leaf that have been attached to depressed areas on the stone. The vermail clasp is the artist’s hand-wrought initials.
The vermeil clasp incorporates the stylized initials (GM) of the maker
