DescriptionThe base of the box is formed of a cut section of a cowry shell with a molded silver rim. The flat silver cover, formed from sheet, has a hidden hinge ornamented with wrigglework.
Marks On inside of case, maker's mark IK (similar to Grimwade 1446).
InscriptionsEngraved on the cover, CGS in monogram
ProvenanceGiven to Gilbert Stuart (1775-1828) by the Bishop of Ossory. 1880, gift of Sydney Brooks to the MFA. (Accession Date: April 15, 1880)
