“A baule” or spool earrings consist of sheet metal rounded at one end and rolled into a spool. A hook at one end of the earring either passed through the earlobe or a suspension hoop in the ear. The upper third of the earring is pediment-shaped and decorated with a partial palmette set between two sphinxes. The central square is decorated with rosettes of various types. There is a fluted metal strip between central square and lower square. Three rows of sharply fluted sheet metal comprise the lowest decorative zone. This earring is noticeably small for the type; it forms a pair with 90.181.
