The subject is drawn from the tragic story of Pyramus and Thisbe as recounted in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Book IV. Central area shows Pyramus and Thisbe against landscape background. Frame composed of symmetrical design of conventionalized flowers, fruits, and leaves. Urns decorated with grotesque faces, appear in lower left and right hand corners. Condition good, shows some wear on outer blue borders. Slightly faded.
