DescriptionThe earlier Battle of Yamazaki, also sometimes called the Battle of Mount Tennô, actually took place in 1582 rather than 1599. At this battle, Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated Akechi Mitsuhide, who had killed Oda Nobunaga, and thereby became the ruler of Japan.
However, the true subject of the print is the fighting at Yamazaki during the Bôshin War of 1868-9.
