DescriptionThe twelve shrines, located in present-day Gunma Prefecture, are: (1) the Nukisaki Shrine, (2) the Akagi Shrine, (3) the Ikaho shrine, (4) the Kawasukune shrine, (5) the Daikoku shrine, (6) the Haruna shrine, (7) the Obori shrine, (8) the Karai shrine, (9) the Shitori shrine, (10) the Miwa shrine, (11) the Kamo shrine, (12) the Uge shrine.

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
