Tureen, silver, oval with cover. Richly decorated on cover with figures in scenes of domestic life amid varied foliage and pagodas. Dragon head finial on cover. Tureen decorated with armed knights on horseback among trees and landscape. Rim and foot have floral pattern. Handles in form of two dragons with entwined tails.

Inscription

MARKS: on the underside of the body, maker's mark "hsi" for Hoaching (from Crosby Forbes, 1975, fig164c); a gothic letter h, similar to date letter for 1743/4
SCRATCHES: on the underside of the body, shallowly engraved, inventory "36140".

Markings

Mark: Chinese ideogram, letter H corresponding to London letter for 1843.
