The idea of attempting to precisely organize the world intrigues Kuitca. Often he takes maps and blueprints as starting points to chart a subjective, human experience of such official documents. Here the artist references an imagined place, highly ordered by measurements and calculations based on the work of German architect Ernst Neufert (1900–1986). This painting offers an aerial view much like architectural drawings, but Kuitca’s painterly rendition testifies to a grittier, more intimate engagement with architecture.
