Findspot: Egypt, Naukratis
Medium or Technique
Travertine (Egyptian alabaster)
Not On View
Approximately half of a domed piece of marble. Opposite side roughly broken. On the domed side, the edge of the dome (approximately 1/2”) seems to have been polished, while the interior circle is quite rough (perhaps intentionally so?). There are a large number of dimples of around the same size covering this surface. The edge itself is fine.
From Naukratis. 1886-7: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the EEF by the Egyptian government; December 22, 1887, presented to the MFA by the EEF.
