In 1941, renowned New York playwright Barton Fink (John Turturro) is enticed to California to write for the movies. Staying in the eerie Hotel Earle, Fink develops severe writer’s block. His neighbor, a jovial insurance salesman named Charlie Meadows (John Goodman), tries to help, but Fink’s troubles continue as a bizarre sequence of events distracts him even further, revealing a hellish truth about Hollywood and show business.
