Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (USA, 1984, 99 min.). Digital.

Blood Simple, the directorial debut from Joel and Ethan Coen, is a bloody, neo-noir crime film set deep in the heart of Texas. A jealous saloon owner (Dan Hedaya) hires a private detective (M. Emmet Walsh) to murder his cheating wife (Frances McDormand) and her lover (John Getz). With the title alluding to the fearful mindset of people after prolonged immersion in violent situations, Blood Simple offers a darkly humorous, serpentine plot that is anything but simple.

“Every individual detail seems to make sense, and every individual choice seems logical, but the choices and details form a bewildering labyrinth. They build crazy walls with sensible bricks.” —Roger Ebert
